A BRAND NEW YEAR AND ITS ‘RESOLUTIONS’
New Year Resolutions are meant to be broken. After having
said that, I am going to tell what my ‘new year resolution’ for 2017 is. It’s
to write and write more. I generally abstain from any year-end revelry and this
year had been no exception. Many had witty repartees for this year. Since our
PM had delivered a much-hyped, heavily broadcasted speech on 31st,
many said that this was the first time in history that people are waiting for
7.30pm and not midnight. The fact that his speech fell as a damp squib remains
altogether another topic for discussion.
I consider the brightest moment this year in world history,
was the gesture of giving the award for the Nobel Prize for Literature to the
iconic singer, Bob Dylan. He is a living legend and his songs are as much songs
of protest as they are literary marvels. His ‘Blowin’ In The Wind’ remains evergreen decades after it was
initially composed. Dylan took time to accept the award. Even if he had
abstained from acceptance of the highest honour that the world bestows on
civilians, he would have remained quintessentially The Bob Dylan, singer, composer, extraordinaire.
Terrorism and mass genocide is what the world is swearing
by. Be it Syria or Paris or Turkey, the IS are creating havoc. Those who have
the power, and I mean armed ones, consider it their birthright to unleash
terror among the innocents. Who would account for the beheading of bloggers? If
you call this a religious jihad, I’d call this the supremacy of ‘muscle power’
over intellect. Have you ever wondered on the number of Indians who have turned
into terrorists? Very negligible. Our neighbouring and partner SAARC countries
like Pakistan and Bangladesh have been hapless victims to instances of terror.
The year that was had been not too good. Let’s not try to
make this new year a worse one. Let us spread the message of peace and
universal amity among all.
Blogging has been receiving newer definitions with each
coming year. Bloggers have received their due recognition and acknowledgement
as free thinkers of the nation. I am more than happy to find myself as a part
of the blogging community of my country. Bloggers are individuals who either
become writers later onwards, like myself, or otherwise adhere to this ‘intellectual’
exercise for keeps. Whatever way it may be, here’s wishing all those who read
this A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR 2017.
